Art Department University of Delaware - Design 2 Metamorphosis - Plasticene, wax molds, plaster tile
Students were asked to pick a 2-d work from the text, Launching the Imagination, and isolate an area of the work to duplicate in tile format with plascticene. They were asked to consider movement, and as always, the elements and principles, when deciding on a new composition. They made their plasticene tiles, cast them in wax and poured plaster to create a three-inch thick tile to refine. The next step was to take the same compositon and morph it into their own composition, considering the way their artist worked. Some chose to use polishes and waxes to color their tiles, others chose to leave them white. A major goal of this assignment was to work with multi-planar levels for high contrast.
